Duvet or Comforter? Key Tips for Choosing Between the Two
Are you looking for different bedding to spice up the aesthetic in your room? Do you question what kind of blanket that you should purchase to go on top of your sheets? If so, then you're probably crossing the heated debate of duvet or comforter.
Both have their advantages and serve their purpose well. The decision between buying a duvet and buying a comforter can be a difficult one, especially if you don't know the difference between the two.
See below for an in-depth guide to help you determine whether you should buy a duvet or comforter to top off your bed set!
What Is the Difference Between the Two?
This is the number one question that we get about comforters and duvets. Most people aren't sure of the difference between the two.
In fact, if we placed a similar-looking duvet cover and comforter side by side, not many people would be able to tell the difference. So what's the secret?
The main difference between the two is that a comforter is quilted with the filling inside of it during manufacturing. What you see is what you get. If you don't like the thickness or thinness of the filling, there's no way to change it out.
Meanwhile, a duvet is comprised of two key pieces: the insert and the duvet cover. You can purchase different duvet inserts, such as one that's made out of natural or synthetic materials. The same goes for the duvet covers, like the ones included in our organic cotton luxury bed set.
Owners of duvets will enjoy more flexibility, as they can simply switch out the duvet cover to match the sheets and pillows in their bed set. Owners of comforters have to purchase an entirely different comforter if their current one doesn't match the aesthetic.
How Do I Determine Which One Is for Me?
Everyone is different. Some swear by duvets, while others will only ever purchase comforters. Our professional opinion is that they're both high-quality options, as long as you're investing in a high-quality brand!
However, maybe you've never had either one before. Perhaps you've had comforters, but never had a duvet (or vice versa). In that case, we're here to help! See below for a few features to help you determine which is the right fit for you.
Do You Like Convenience?
Convenience is in the eye of the beholder, we suppose. Let's just list out the facts and let you determine which one is more convenient for your schedule and chore list.
With duvets, it's highly recommended that you wash both the duvet cover and the duvet frequently. However, you shouldn't throw them in with the duvet cover still on. To ensure a thorough clean, you need to take the duvet cover off the insert, then wash both and let them hang dry.
Since a comforter is just one piece with the filling quilted in, you simply take it off the bed and wash it with the rest of your bedsheets. Again, we recommend that you air dry it.
Experts say that you should be washing your bedsheets once a week at a minimum, so if convenience is important to you, a comforter might have the upper hand.
Is Décor Important to You?
This should be prefaced by saying that both duvets and comforters can provide a beautiful aesthetic inside any bedroom.
That said, those that prioritize décor in their home's linens typically lean towards duvet and duvet covers. Why? Because the duvet cover and insert complement each other in such a unique way.
You can purchase extremely fluffy duvet inserts, then purchase a high-quality organic cotton duvet cover to place over it. The aesthetic will make anyone who sees it want to run and dive onto the bed to feel like they're laying on a cloud.
Comforters are no pushover when it comes to fluffiness either. However, the more often you use them, the more compact their filling starts to become. They remain just as comfy, but the fluffiness might go down a bit over the years.
Are You Searching for Comfiness?
Who isn't searching for comfiness in their bed linens? Warm blankets with filling? Yes, please! Here's the good news for all you snuggle bugs out there—both comforters and duvets offer the comfort that you seek (hence the name).
Purchase a fluffy duvet insert and soft fabric duvet cover to feel like you're covering yourself with a cloud each night.
For those of you that need a feeling of security while you sleep, you'll love the feeling of a luxury weighted blanket comforter. They're plush, soft, and easily washable.
Do You Need More Than One Bed Set?
This might be a bit of a cop-out on our part, but if the answer is "yes", then why not get one of each?
If you really want to know which one you'll prefer in terms of a duvet or comforter, give both a try. We offer high-quality, cost-efficient options for both.
However, if you're dead-set on getting one or the other, then consider this: with comforters, you'll be switching out one for the other when you change your sheets each week. With duvet covers, you will only be switching out the duvet cover.
