How to Sleep Peacefully in the Summer Heat

How to Sleep Peacefully in the Summer Heat

Getting a full eight hours of sleep each night is essential for optimal physical and mental health. Without a proper night's rest, you may wake up feeling run down and incapable of completing the day's tasks. One of the most difficult seasons to sleep through is summer.

As the temperatures rise, it makes it even more of a challenge to fall asleep and stay asleep at night. No one enjoys sleeping in hot weather brought on by summer heat. Fortunately, there are a few ways to ensure you sleep peacefully even during the summer months.

In the guide below, you'll discover several different ways to sleep soundly when the temperature rises outside. Continue reading below to learn more about sleeping in the summer with ease.

Prevent Heat From Entering

Heat has its way of entering your home through windows, cracks or openings around exterior doors, through vents, and more. As the temperature outside rises, the heat will try its best to find its way inside your home. One of the best ways to ensure a peaceful night's sleep during the summer is to prevent the heat from entering.

You can do this by keeping all windows and blinds closed. You may also want to invest in blackout curtains, which do a great job of blocking the sun's light and heat from entering your bedroom. If the sun normally wakes you up earlier than desired in the morning, then these curtains could even prevent that from happening.

Give your body some time to adjust, and you may find yourself sleeping in much later than normal, so don't forget to set that alarm if needed!

Choose a Low Bed Frame

As you may already know, heat rises. This is why it's a great idea to choose a low bed frame. Sleeping close to the ground can actually help you stay cool during the night.

There's a variety of options for bed frames low to the ground. You can even consider using a futon frame. If you currently have a metal frame, then be sure to check to see if it can be adjusted.

Most can. If so, then adjust the frame to bring the bed down lower during the summer and raise it back up during the fall.

Purchase the Right Mattress and Pillow

The mattress and pillow you use each night can have a significant effect on how well you sleep. If you're not comfortable, then it'll be more difficult to rest, especially during the summer. The first thing you want to do is figure out if your current mattress is up to your standards.

Some mattresses (such as those with thick foams and no cooling sections) can cause your body temperature to rise during the night. Other mattresses are made to help keep you cool, so be sure to choose the best fit for you. Just like with mattresses, there are some pillows that'll stay warm at night and others that stay cool.

Finding a comfortable cooling pillow will help you sleep soundly as well.

Use Breathable and Cool Bedding

Another factor to consider is the type of bedding you use. Is your bedding keeping you cool or hot at night? Be sure to check the tag on all bedding to determine what type of material it is.

Selecting bedding that's made from natural materials such as cotton or lien breaths better and can help keep you cool. Choosing bedding that's light in color may also help.

Take a Warm Bath

You want to cool down, not warm up, so how does taking a warm bath help?

Take your warm bath prior to going to bed but not immediately before bed. Baths can help you relax and prepare your body and mind for sleep. When you're ready to exit the bath, your body will begin to cool down as it adjusts to the outside temperature.

Keep Water Near the Bed

Do you tend to wake up in the middle of the night sweating? If so, then you most likely wake up thirsty as well. Do your best to remember to put water near your bed.

If you wake up hot during the night, then you can easily access water to help cool your body down and keep it hydrated.

Put the Room Temperature Down

When summer hits, it's time to drop the temperatures indoors. You don't have to keep your home super cold during the day and run up your electric bill, but you should drop the temperature at night to sleep better. Keeping your thermostat at 65 degrees is a great temperature for sleeping.

This will keep you cool under your blankets but not too cold or hot.

Use a Fan If Needed

Some people tend to sleep hot. Their body temperatures rise while they sleep. For this reason, you may feel the need to add in one other cooling factor.

If this is true, then you can use a standing electric fan and point it towards your mattress. This will help with added airflow as well.

You Can Sleep Peacefully Even During the Summer

Sleeping peacefully may seem like an impossible task, especially during the summer. Fortunately, with the help of these tips listed above, you can sleep peacefully throughout the summer night without a problem!

Are you ready for a new and improved mattress, bedding, or both? Having the right mattress and bedding can help you stay cool during the night. Check out all the wonderful options at Nest Bedding to make the switch today.
